October is the national celebration of ‘Sons and Daughters’ an initiative by Fostering Network to recognise and thank the children who helped support their family to foster.
Trust Fostering, run by Doncaster Children’s Services Trust, has aimed to thank not only sons and daughters, but grandchildren too, who make up unique foster families across the borough.
Belinda Cashman, Head of Service Placements at the Trust said: “The month of October is all about celebrating the unique makeup of foster families, in particular the contributions of biological sons and daughters in the home.”
“At Trust Fostering we know the foster family doesn’t stop with sons and daughters; we wanted to recognise grandchildren too. Through our work to create extended networks for our fostering families we know how important every member of the foster family is.”
Sons, daughters and grandchildren, aged 18 years old and under, will be receiving personalised cards in the post to thank them for everything they do as part of their foster family.
Belinda added: “It is a small gesture for each of our foster families’ sons, daughters and grandchildren, would show them once again how they really are pivotal in helping foster families to provide that loving and stable home that children in care need.
“We know that taking the plunge and becoming a foster carer can seem daunting; especially for families who already have children still living at home. If you have the enthusiasm, and room, to support a child or young person in care then it really shouldn’t put you off.
“At Trust Fostering we actively encourage a family feel and make sure that the whole family is part of the foster care process. We offer 24/7 support, extensive training opportunities and competitive rates. Talk to us about joining our foster family today.”
