Safer Sleep Week

We are joining forces with Doncaster Safeguarding Children Board (DSCB) and other partners from Public Health and RDASH to promote National Safer Sleep week, next week, March 12-18.

Around four babies a week still die from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) – commonly known as cot death - and it is believed that if more parents were aware of safer sleep advice, lives would be saved.

Safer Sleep Week is The Lullaby Trust’s national awareness campaign targeting anyone looking after a young baby. It aims to raise awareness of SIDS and the advice on how parents can reduce the risks.

The charity has lots of advice around the issue of the safest sleep arrangements for babies on its website which includes topics on the best sleeping position, room temperature, the best mattress and bedding to use and co-sleeping with babies, among others.

The key message is the ABCs of Safer Sleep:

  • Always sleep your baby...
  • ...on their back...
  • in a clear cot or sleep space (free of bumpers, pillows and loose bedding).

We and our partners will be publishing social media posts during next week and you can join in using #safersleepweek.
