A Foster couple who have opened their home to nearly 130 children over 39 years, say they just love “making a difference”.
Janet and Stuart have cared for children ranging from birth through to 16 including several disabled children.
And Stuart has even performed the honour of giving one former foster teenager away several years later when she got married.
“We’ve had lots of good times,” said Stuart, adding: “We enjoy providing a stepping stone for children and young people to get them to a better life.”
Meanwhile Janet says: “It is just so rewarding when you see the children moving on both happy and confident. “
This has included watching one young woman go on to university, become a police officer, get married and have children of her own. They still regularly see her and say she is like their own daughter.
In fact Janet and Stuart receive Christmas cards and regular photo updates from most of their former foster children.
They also say they feel well supported by the Trust and through the fostering fraternity.
“There is a great sense of being a community among local foster carers – it’s like a big fostering family in Doncaster,” said Janet.
